12 Netflix Shows You Need to Watch This Fall

It is finally that perfect time of the year where you can crawl underneath the covers and no one will judge you. Okay, maybe they will but I certainly won’t. After I get home from work I do one of three things… I go to the gym, work on my blog, or I watch Netflix. I’m a junky when it comes to a good, mindless show. With that said, I’m a notorious binge watcher so if you have any other shows for me to watch let me know in the comments down below. For now, these are my top 12 Netflix shows.

Drama

Instead of just listing my favorite episodes I figured I’d give them a rating for the plot, characters, and style. The ranking is from 1-10, 10 being the best score.

Scandal: Plot 10, characters 9, style 10.

If political drama with a strong woman is your thing… this show is definitely for you. My brother’s girlfriend and I would DVR the episodes and watch them together when we both had time. Olivia Pope is a strong character who fixes political scandals from top political.  This insane show will make you think about how corrupt politics can be.

Thirteen Reasons Why: Plot 10, characters 10, style 6.

When I was in high school, I wrote a book report on Thirteen Reasons Why. I was reluctant to watch the series because I was worried they were going to misconstrue the idea of suicide. Luckily, the screenwriters did an incredible job that pointed out all of the different layers that come with suicide. This show should definitely be watched with hesitation for some, but it can be an extreme eyeopener for others.

How to Get Away with Murder: Plot 10, characters 9, style 7.

If you guys read my podcast post then you probably predicted murder coming up on this list. The plot of this show keeps you on your toes with every twist and turn. This extremely intense college course pushes five college students to their breaking point. The series shows the twisted idea that anyone can be turned in to a villain.

Gossip Girl: Plot 10, characters 10, style 10.

I’m not someone who watches shows more than once because it will not hold my attention long enough. With that said, I’ve watched this series three times. That is how brilliant this show is. The series shows a dramatic hierarchy the elite classes in New York City. Each character has an insane personality that has many, many layers. The screenwriters, cast, and costume designers did an incredible job creating a series that captivates the audience with every plot.

Grey’s Anatomy: Plot 9, characters 9, style 4 (doesn’t apply).

You best believe a Shonda Rhymes series is on here three times. I grew up watching Grey’s Anatomy with my mom on Thursday nights. That was when I was in fifth grade. Looking back, some of the content was probably not suitable for a fifth grader, but nonetheless, I loved watching this epic, medical drama. The only reason I did not give the character section a perfect score is because my favorite characters keep dying. I’m a little bitter about that. Warning: this show will make you ball your eyes out.

The 100: Plot 9, characters 10, style/costumes 10.

Out of every show listed on this list, this is by far my favorite. I usually like shows where I can mindlessly look and listen to while I play on my phone. With that said, this show is definitely not one where you can play on your phone during the episodes. Every episode that comes out I’m on the edge of my seat. The characters in this show are put into situations where I don’t even know how I would react. For people who like Game of Thrones, I think you would fall hard for this sci-fi drama.

Vampire Diaries: Plot 8, characters 10, style/costumes 8.

Who doesn’t love a weird, sci-fi movie? This show is definitely intended for high school students during the Twilight movie craze. Regardless, I somehow was sucked into this world recently. I’m on the second season and I like it so far. I oddly like the different plot line. Plus, this show is getting me in the festive mood for Halloween.

Comedy

Comedy isn’t my favorite thing to watch only because I weirdly like crying when I watch shows. With that said, I’m going to include the category “comedy” to show how funny the jokes are.

Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce: Plot 8, comedy 9, characters 9, style 10.

I’ve never felt so uncomfortable watching a main character. This is probably the only show where you can find me cringing at how awkward and selfish the main character acts. However, I love the friend dynamic in this show because the girls really pull each other up during difficult times. I’ve never been in a divorce but I could still relate to the characters’ struggles.

Shameless: Plot 10, comedy 9, characters 10, style 3.

If you had to watch one show on this comedy list, watch this one. You’ll be glued to the screen. The humor is pretty vulgar but if you can get past that you’ll love this show. The characters are so honest and true that you can’t help but love them. Plus, there are some crazy plot twists in this show.

Friends from College: Plot 7, comedy 9, characters 10, style 10.

I really liked this show in the beginning but towards the end the plot was very repetitive. It has characters like Keegan-Michael Key and Cobie Smulders so you know each joke is delivered perfectly. This show is perfect for a great laugh but not perfect for a good plot.

Parks and Rec: Plot 9, comedy 10, characters 10, style 7.

The dynamic of characters in this show is fantastic. Leslie Knope always tries to brighten up everyone’s day with her weird mix of words and happy attitude. If I had to transform into any character it would be Leslie because of how optimistic and persistent she is. Watch this show and you’ll be blissfully happy.

Orange is the New Black: Plot 10, comedy 8, characters 10, style (doesn’t apply).

Like Shameless, this show is a little vulgar. The jokes are pretty cruel but the characters are so great that you’ll forget. I particularly liked this show because it is set in a different scenery than other shows. Even though the characters are criminals you can’t help but love them and feel bad for them. The screen writers did a fantastic job making the characters relatable.
