What to Wear to a Bridal Shower as a Guest

When it comes to bridal showers, I was completely lost on what to wear. Can you wear white? Can you wear pants? How dressy should you be? After scrolling through Pinterest for hours, I finally figured out what is appropriate and what isn’t appropriate to wear to a bridal shower. Whether this is your first of many bridal showers to go to or you’re in the middle of shower season, here is what you should wear to a bridal shower.

You can’t go wrong with a summer dress.

Depending on where the bridal shower is, you can most likely get away with a summer dress. All of the showers I have attended have been in a house and call for something a little bit dressier than a casual summer dress. If you are going to a restaurant, you can definitely wear a dressier dress but you don’t need to go all out. You would be fine with a cute cotton dress in a fun pattern. The dress I’m wearing in these pictures would be a perfect dress for either location because of the unique wrap skirt detailing. If I wanted to make this dress fancier, I could easily add a pair of white heels or tall wedges.

Don’t wear anything too short or revealing.

Chances are older family members and young children will be at the bridal shower. You may participate in games at the shower as well so you want to make sure that you’re not going to suffer from a major wardrobe malfunction. Opting for a longer dress such as a midi or a maxi dress will not only make you look instantly stylish, but it will allow you to move around without worrying. I admit, I still follow my high school dress code where you have to wear a dress to at least the length of your fingertips. Classy, not trashy.

Don’t wear white.

This one is pretty much a no-brainer but don’t wear white to a bridal shower. I actually wanted to wear this outfit to a bridal shower but wasn’t sure if it was okay to wear white pants. To play it safe, I just decided to wear a linen green dress instead. it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Wearing white mixed with a pattern is okay.

Along with the “white wardrobe” theme, it’s okay to wear white as long as the entire dress isn’t white. The dress I’m wearing is a good mix of white and baby blue. It is as much as a blue dress as it is a white dress. Trust your gut on what is okay to wear and what isn’t. If you’re having second guesses, chances are it’s not the right thing to wear.

Look for light, feminine colors and a fun silhouette.

Weddings are a time to celebrate, so why not celebrate with your wardrobe? I’ve noticed that most wedding shower guests wear pastel colors because they are so feminine. I’ve also seen fun silhouettes with dropped waists, off the shoulder, strapless, asymmetrical and so much more. Have fun with your wardrobe. After all, the bride only cares about the fact that you’re there celebrating with her… not what you’re wearing.
