How I Get Out of a Blogging Creative Funk + 12 Post Ideas

Creative funk? Everyone gets there eventually. No matter what creative outlet, you eventually get to a point where you don’t know what to say, do, or create. In order to get out of a creative funk or steer myself away from it, I follow these tips. Sometimes the only thing you need to do to get out of a creative funk is look at things from a different perspective.

Write about a completely different topic.

Okay so you blog about fashion but you have a secret passion for baseball? Write about that and what you would wear to a game. Write about tips about blogging but have an act for cooking? Compare how blogging is a process just like cooking. The cool thing about blogging is that you literally have no restrains. Okay, so some people will definitely say that you need to stick to your niche… but really, it’s okay to steer away and test out other posts once in a while. In fact, I think it’s a little refreshing.

Write in a different perspective.

I’m always shocked by how many people don’t really know that the terms “sustainable” and “fast fashion.” I sometimes need to remember that everyone starts at different points and has different perspectives. Sometimes a quick post explaining a term or giving your readers background on a topic can be a great way to open a door. Plus, it might even let you think about a topic in a different way.

Create a list of filler post titles that can help you brainstorm ideas.

The picture above is literally my kryptonite. When I’m trying to come up with new ideas I try to think about the idea and how it will relate to you. When it doubt lists (like this post) are my go to. I love breaking up a post into separate thoughts so its easier to digest for you. Also, if I’m being honest, it helps SEO tremendously because it’s easier to skim.

When you are feeling creative, brainstorm then and write it all down.

This is my biggest and best tip because when I’m feeling creative I literally have a million thought running in my head. You should seriously see how I journal… incomplete sentences there, run-ons over there, and why do I write on opposite sides of the page? As for blog post ideas, I always write them down in my planner to help me go back to ideas when I need a topic idea. It really helps you not run out of ideas.

Take a break.

Lastly, if you’ve tried all these tips and still feel like you’re stuck in a creative funk, take a week off. Back in February, I just felt like I was running out of ideas so I decided to take a week off when I traveled for work. On the plane ride home, I came up with a million and a half ideas and really missed writing. Think of your creativity as a muscle and that it needs to be not only exercise but it needs a break once in a while. Sometimes you best thoughts (or workouts) will come after a break.
