Sustainable Workout Gear + 4 Month Orangetheory Update

Sustainable workout gear on the blog… again?! I know, athletic gear isn’t my normal go-to outfit, but I love these three companies so much that I just needed to share with you. Since I’ve been increasing my workout routine, I’ve started to find more and more athletic brands that align with my values. So what brand should you add to your workout wardrobe? Read on to find out…

Jacket (Patagonia) | Leggings (Athleta – Similiar) | Top (Athleta) | Shoes (Brooks) | Socks (Bombas)

Athleta

Looking for a pair of the comfiest leggings ever? Meet Athleta. Athleta is a B-Corporation which means they meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Basically, that all means that Athleta is a super rad company that cares about the environment and the people who make their clothes. Many of Athleta’s products are fair trade and are made out of recycled materials. Plus, their leggings feel like a soft cloud so that’s always a win-win. My favorite pair of Athleta leggings are these.

Patagonia

As a leader for ethical outdoor wear, Patagonia checks off every mark in the book. Their products are made out of organic cotton and uses a high proportion of eco-friendly materials including recycled polyester, nylon, and Tencel. Patagonia also traces all of their supply chain and audits their factories regularly. Patagonia is consistently leading protests for protecting mother nature. Plus, Patagonia makes lovely coats that make you feel like you’re wrapped up in a big blanket.

Brooks

When it comes to finding an ethical running shoe that doesn’t look heinous, it can be difficult. Thankfully, I came across Brooks and found out everything they’ve been trying to do in order to help their employees. Brooks has been praised for their efforts to eliminate child labor and has also signed the Bangladesh Fire & Safety Accord.

As a side note, I had the same pair of Nike Free runners for the past five years and finally said buh-bye to them. They were ripped at the seams and offered little to no support for my foot. When I put on my first pair of Brooks I literally melted into them. These shoes offer so much support for my high arch and have been helping me learn how to run. I highly reccomend these shoes.

Running. Remember in my New Year’s Resolution post I said I was going to try and become a runner? Well… guess who is getting there! I’ve never been a runner. I’ve always avoided it the best I could by doing other types of cardio. When you join Orangetheory there is no getting around the fact that you will eventually have to run. When I started Orangetheory four months ago, I was always a walker. Fast forward to my most recent class and I was able to jog the entire time! The class was set up with four different blocks of running. During each blog, you would run for four minutes with increasing speed at each minute. I was able to do it without walking!

Lifting. I’ve always enjoyed lifting, but I never really pushed myself to try heavier weights. I have one instructor that constantly tells me to lift heavier weights. As soon as I try the heavier weights, I realize she is right. It’s so encouraging to have someone call you out when you’re taking an easy path.

Bottom line. I’m still obsessed with Orangetheroy. So far I’ve convinced my friend, my mom, and two coworkers to try out a class. If you’re looking for a great class that will get you motivated and out of your workout rut – this is the class for you! Plus, the first class is free so what do you have to lose?
