Three Jackets You Need This Fall

Do you ever get this warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach when you think about something special? I feel that way when I think about fall. I don’t know if it is the hot chocolate getting to me, but I get this gooey feeling whenever I see a leaf fall or a pumpkin roll over. If you think of a cinnamon being pulled apart that is pretty much how I feel on a daily basis. My family puts up a freaking Halloween tree in the month of October. No joke. I’ll do any fall activity that comes my way. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw I carved a pumpkin this past weekend. No worries, this post contains 0% pumpkins. I figured you’re probably sick of seeing them on your feed.

My favorite part about fall is finally being able to wear more layers and, in this case, more jackets. Some people are shoe junkies, I’m a jacket/layer junkie. A jacket can do so much to any outfit by creating a totally different atmosphere. For example, a jean jacket with similar pants made me look feminine and girly, but when I put on this leather jacket I look edgy and mysterious. Sure, my obnoxious smile takes away from the dare devil image I was ‘trying’ to create, but you get the point.

IMG_4195.jpg

Jackets are an essential for your fall wardrobe. The three vital jackets I have on repeat are:

Jean Jacket. Style: Sweet, feminine, casual.

Jean jackets are the ultimate staple of the girl next door. The soft hues and lightweight material makes it perfect for day time. Plus, it is by far the easiest thing to throw on a lightweight dress. This is the perfect jacket for those awkward warm fall days. My favorite posts of this jacket are this post and this post.

Suede Jacket. Style: Chic, fashionable, dressy.

Suede jackets are the perfect in-between day and night jackets. The soft material is perfect for adding extra texture to all of your outfits. This jacket is literally perfect for any fall activity. My favorite looks wearing my favorite suede jacket are this post, this post, and this post.

Leather Jacket. Style: Edgy, mysterious, wild.

Lastly, jean jackets are the ultimate show stopper jacket. If you want to make an impression go for this harsh textile and turn some heads. This jacket is perfect for transitioning a summer dress to fall or just spicing up a rather bland outfit like this one. I show how to transition a summer dress to fall in this post.

If you really want to push this list, another jacket you should get is a trench coat. Trench coats are extremely versatile and will always remain a classic. Plus, their neutral hue is perfect for the fall weather. Something more trendy would be a fur jacket that has been all the range last fall and this upcoming fall. Plus, it gives you the extra warmth on the colder, fall days.

Getting Outside My Comfort ZoneIMG_4213

Without this jacket, this look would have turned out being just a normal striped shirt paired with some colored pants. By throwing on this leather jacket, it has developed a whole new vibe to the look. A daring vibe I’m not used to but slowly adapting to. Plus, who doesn’t love being edgy for a day or two?

How to Wear a Fuzzy Vest Like a Boss

Hello darlings! I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been lost in the sea of pink this past couple of weeks. My instagram feed is drowning in pinks and reds. I tried my best to spice it up by throwing a plum color into the mix. Okay, so I know it’s still in the same color family but, hey, it is Valentine’s day after all.

I’m a huge fan on vests lately. I think they’re the perfect addition to any outfit because of the add a new kind of detention to the outfit. Also, it feels like you’re being bear hugged all day and who doesn’t love that? This fluffy vest is from Marshall’s- the store that literally knows how to bubble happiness. I particularly like how this one flaps open to show the contrast of suede and fur. You could easily put this vest over a tight dress, but I love it paired with an equally relaxed dress. This plum color dress really makes the cream color pop. This vest would also look great with any color especially army green… maybe even an all white outfit!

As for jewelry I opted for my favorite ring from Bluebird, a small store located in Troy, New York. I literally wear this ring every day… I wish it came in silver because I would be all over that.

I’ve been obsessed with wearing this necklace from The Giving Key. This necklace comes in three different versions that say Dream, Love, and Hope. I wasn’t sure if I should get dream or love. I ended up picking dream but because, as a senior in college, it is very easy to get nervous about the future. I wanted to keep a reminder close to remember that I need to dream about endless opportunities. It is easy to get discouraged, but this necklace is just a little reminder to keep my head up high and dream big. This particular brand is incredibly because not only does it help motivate me but it helps the homeless. The Giving Key purposely hires homeless people in California so that they an help improve their lives. You can check out their mission more here.

Lastly, I decided on incorporating more texture in this outfit. You probably know by now, I adore adding more elements to every outfit. These quirky tights are perfect when paired with over the knee boots. Lace tights are one of my favorite items to add in an outfit because it instantly makes the look so much more flirty and feminine. The tights are very innocent where as the boots are very edgy so it is creates this interesting contrast in any outfit.

35 Funky Ideas for Your New Year’s Resolution

Hello darlings! What is your opinion on New Year’s resolutions? Do you think its a great opportunity or a bunch of lies? Now this post might be a little late but you can always start a new beginning. To me it seems like people are either pessimistic or optimistic about New Year’s resolutions. You’re either the positive, “I’m going to improve my life drastically” or pessimistic saying “I can change anytime I want.” I’m in-between both of these ideas because I like the idea of setting a goal. Yes, I realize you can do that anytime and be successful. I’m not doubting that. However, what I am saying is that the new year is a great opportunity to make a few changes in your life. Nothing drastically, but little things that you can improve on day by day. For example, every year I tell myself “drink more water.” Some days I forget… hey, I am human after all. But most days I remember. Making the New Year’s resolution in the beginning of January helps me refocus my goals and try to make the best out of everything.

There is always room for self improvement no matter who you are. New Year’s resolutions gives you the opportunity to reflect and possibly even make yourself the best you can possibly be. I know that is cheesy and what not, but I think that is why people are so drawn to creating a New Year’s resolution.

Here are 35 funky ideas for your New Year’s Resolutions:

  • Drink more water.
  • Eat more vegetables.
  • Come up with something creative to cook once a week/or month.
  • Go somewhere new once a week/month.
  • Go a different way to work/school once a week/month so you can look at things differently.
  • Try a new hobby once a month.
  • Read a book once a month.
  • Read 3+ scholarly articles once a week.
  • Learn a new word every day.
  • Try new workout classes/routine once a week/month.
  • Try saying “yes” more than “no”
  • Try a different culture’s food once a week/month.
  • Listen to yourself more.
  • Leave the house every day.
  • Sleep 8 hours every day.
  • Dress up more.
  • Compliment at least one person a day.
  • Work on forgiveness.
  • Comment on someone’s blog post once a day.
  • Volunteer more.
  • Plan your outfits the day before.
  • Change your bed sheets more
  • Do 30 squats or 15 push ups every day.
  • Give yourself at least 30 minutes every day to relax.
  • Develop a better Spotify playlist.
  • Write down one thing that made you happy every day.
  • Write down one thing that made you grateful every day.
  • Wear less/more make up (which ever you prefer).
  • Say “I love you,” “thank you,” and “please” more.
  • Learn an interesting fact once a day.
  • Think more about what you’re putting into your body.
  • Think more about where your clothes are coming from.
  • Reflect more on your decisions.
  • Do something you wouldn’t normally do once a day.
  • Tip more.

Maybe pick one or two from this epic list or even come up with your own. As for me, I plan improving myself to my best of ability by working on a few of the ideas listed above. I knew its cliche, but sometimes you need a little push to improve yourself. After all, I’m graduating this spring and will soon have to figure out where my life is headed. When you’re coming up with your New Year’s resolution or even just an idea of how to improve yourself, think of not only how you want others to see you but how you want to see yourself. Do you want to see yourself as a positive, helpful person or do you want people to see you as a funny, charismatic  person? Your New Year’s resolution can help you reach that type of goal.

Some things I’m beyond happy to enter the new year with includes this wonderful wall calendar. I love this wall calendar because each month has different illustrations based on the weather change. You bet this baby is going to be hanging in my room at school as soon as I get back.

If you haven’t shopped for Bath and Body Works candles as of recently I might think you’re insane. Last week, the candles were $10 each and I had a coupon for $10 off $40 so they actually ended up being $7.50 each. The coupon is: F165207 at check out and if you’re in store here is the coupon. Right now the candles are at $11.25 so get them while they’re this cheap!

I recently got this mascara kit for Christmas. You get to try 5 different types of mascaras and then get a full size one once you pick which one you like most. I’m still deciding which one I want to get but this was definitely one of my favorite gifts. If you’re looking for a new mascara check it out in stores at Sephora.

I have this weird obsession with painting my nails and 2017 is no different. I received this nail polish, Tickle My Franc-y , from one of my best friends and I literally cannot stop reaching for this color. It’s been a month and I can’t seem to paint my nails any other color. This pink shade of nude nail polish is perfect for any occasion so definitely check it out.

The Butter London lipgloss in Hot Totty is from Marshall’s. They’re usually $20-$34 depending where you buy it from and what color it is… I scored mine for $5. Like my nail polish, I keep reaching for this lip gloss. It smells good, stays put, is incredibly moisturizing, and it makes me feel like a princess. So yes, I’m slightly obsessed. Be on the look out when you’re shopping at Marshall’s or T.J.Maxx you never know what you’ll end up with.

To stay on track in 2017, I think everyone needs a good planner. Last year, I purchased a similar planner to this one. I love Ban.do‘s planners because they don’t have lines on the days of the week. One thing I really like doing with my planners is drawing on them instead of writing down the event. Ban.do also does a great way to make the planner as interactive as possible by including multiple compliments and activities to do on random pages. You can see last year’s planner here and see all of the wonderful features pictured. The differences between this year’s and last year’s planner is that there are more note pages, different drawings/compliments/activities and there are more stickers that you can use. Kind of a win-win.

img_0161img_0158img_0261

I agree with Ban.do when they say don’t look back. I hope this year brings you all joy, happiness, and health. Focus on the positive and hopefully make this year the best it can be. Let me know in the comments down below if you have any New Year’s Resolutions for this upcoming year or if you have any necessities to bring on this wonderful year.

Happy January 4th!

Treat Yo Self- Haul June 2016

Hello darlings! Before you read any further, I just want to point out that these purchases have been over a month and have just started piling up. I figured I would share some of my lovely purchases with you guys because they make me warm and fuzzy inside. Plus, I love reading all your hauls so maybe someone gets that oogy-gooey feeling like I do.

It seems like this time last year I blogged about Bath and Body Works. It might just be that they always have a fantastic sale going on around this time. No worries I have some new goodies to show. Oddly enough, that post gets revisited time after time. Someone must just love looking at their colorful products… I know I do! I feel like every time I go into Bath and Body Works I get sucked into this other world. Luckily enough, there is a sale going on this week. If you haven’t checked it out already… go, go, go! Right now the original $22 candles are half off. You guys know my obsession with candles (my roommate, Courtney, admits that she is ready for all of the scented candles next year). I ended up purchasing 3.

IMG_8873.jpg

The Autumn Mums smells like florals with a hint of the generic Flesh Linen candle. The underneath of the candle says that the candle smells like “a floral blend of soft mum petals, amber and a hint of sandalwood.” I think that nailed it.

The next candle is the Baja Cactus Blossom.  This one really caught my eye because I didn’t really know that cacti had a scent. I really wish this candle had a lotion because it has the softest note of coconut that makes the candle so alluring. The back of the candle says that the scent is from the “alluring beauty of a cactus flower captured in a blend of fresh white flowers, green cactus stems and sun kissed coconut.” Not captured in my photos, the lid of this particular candle has palm leaves which makes a great addition to my candle collection.

The last candle is the sweet Paris Lavender Macaron. This candle says that it smells like “lavender blossoms with a delicate patisserie cookie,” but I smell something completely different. When I smell this candle, I smell a sweet vanilla, cinnamon, and cream cheese frosting. This particular candle I think should be burned for a little because it is stronger than the others.

.
I also ended up getting something that I’ve never purchased before. I ended up getting this adorable car freshener and 4 different scents. I admit, it took me a little while to actually figure out how to insert the scent. Once I figured it out the first time, it’s easy to change. I have a soft spot for candles and cacti so I guess Bath and Body Works knows the way to my heart. The scents right now are 4 for $10. Which isn’t too bad considering they’re normally $3.50. They also have more adorable holders than this cactus. For example, they have a margarita glass, anchors, turtles, and flowers.

IMG_8933.jpg

Going along with the car theme, I’ve been looking for a keychain for my car keys. It’s just been a little hard finding them in my purse so I just wanted a little tassel. I found this one at DSW and thought it was adorable.

IMG_8888.jpg

When it comes to shoes, I have trust problems. It’s very, very rare that I will fall in love with any shoes that aren’t Steve Madden. My boots are always Steve Madden. I don’t know what it is but he just seems to know what I like. So, naturally, going into DSW my eyes somehow always dart towards Steve Madden shoes. It’s almost pathetic. I was wandering the store looking for shoes for an upcoming wedding, and I had three different boxes… All Steve Madden. I ended up getting two lace up pairs of Steve Madden. Do any of you have a brand of shoes that you just can’t seem to escape?

The pair on the left is actually a little bit of a darker brown than the pair on the left but the picture disordered it a little. With that in mind I really like both of these shoes because they make your legs look longer. When you have shoes that are a similar tone as your skin, it plays a trick on the eyes by making your legs look longer. These sandals are incredibly comfy because they don’t have that thong in-between the big toe and other toes. I also love the lace up aspect of them. It’s a unique flare.

The pair on the right is such a show stopper. I’ve fallen in love with the lace up shoes ever since I bought my first pair in Ireland. You can see them here. Plot twist: they’re from Top Shop. The heel on these shoes are about 2 1/3 to 3 inches. I love that you can tie a bow either in front or back of your leg. Okay, that may seem really minor but it really makes a difference depending on what you’re wearing. For example, the dress I’m wearing to an upcoming wedding is very elegant and says enough without needing shoes to say more. Therefore, by putting the bow in the back of the leg plays down the shoe. If I was wearing a simple dress I would want the bow in the front. Regardless these shoes are a great addition to my shoe collection. P.S. the red on the shoes is from a clearance sticker… It is NOT blood! I don’t want anyone to be worried/alarmed!

I ended up going into Madewell. Madewell is actually a really new store to me. They are  partnered up with the lovely J.Crew but have a more youthful vibe. Many of their items are very clean cut and simple but have a little bit of a unique cut or style to them. For example, their plain shirts might drape a certain way. All of their jewelry is this funky gold color. I have a hard time describing it so if any of you know the proper term let me know in the comments. It’s a really unique quality their jewelry possesses. I ended up spending a lot of time looking at their jewelry and ended up with this ring that looks between a sun and a bullet wound (might look like a bullet wound to me because I’ve been spending a lot of time watching Lost). If you’ve never been to a Madewell shop it’s definitely a place you should check out. I forgot to mention, their bags are phenomenal as well. They have leather bags that you can initial or make them say whatever you want. I’m thinking about purchasing a simple leather bag for all my papers in the future.

Earlier this summer, I went to Maryland with my boyfriend’s family and met more of his family. I ended up purchasing this 100% vegan, cruelty-free roll on perfume. I love roll on perfumes because they’re so easy to throw in your bag and apply them on the go. They make a few different smells. If I see this brand again I think I’m going to purchase the grapefruit one next!

IMG_8860

Whenever you go into a place like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Nordstrom Rack you never really know what you’re going to come out with. Recently, I wandered around Normstrom Rack with my mom desperately looking for a dress for a wedding (I founded it but that is for another post… The anticipation I know)! I didn’t know where to begin looking for just normal shirts. I just looked at random racks here and there. I still don’t think I looked at everything. I ended up falling for this beautiful blue top. The way the top sits on your shoulders is incredibly flattering. I can’t wait to show you guys how I pattern this top a few different ways.

There are three dresses you will ended up seeing in future posts. I’m incredibly excited to show you the dresses and the experiences associated with them.

Like the Nordstrom Rack… Marshalls is just as good. I found these spring pattern shorts on one of the racks. I love this deep, rich green color and the funky blue pattern.

IMG_8877

Along with the shorts this breezy top was hiding in one of the racks. It has cutouts on the shoulders and flows everywhere else. This is a perfect shirt for a colder day because it would look phenomenal with white skinny jeans.

It is so hard going into American Eagle and not buying something. I plan on showing these three items in an outfit post so I had to just show them in a little sneak peak…

I love Francesca’s… what is not to love about their delicate jewelry pieces and feminine clothing. Also, they have the best accessory section compared to Urban Outfitters. I ended up getting this adorable flower case and matching mug. I’ve been looking at this mug since the winter and have finally shelled out the money to purchase it. I’m really indecisive if I should keep it as a mug or if I should transform it into a succulent platter. If you have any opinions let me know in the comments!

I love these sparkly earrings I picked up as well. I’ve gotten so many compliments on them  that I knew I had to blog about them. The outside rim is a faux looking wooden branch and the inside are filled with different sized gems. What isn’t to love?

IMG_8854

Obviously I needed help talking pictures so Butch graciously volunteered. He helped me pick out which item to photograph until he got distracted by this enormous frog that lives in our little coy pond.

As you read this post, I am moving to Troy. I’ve been offered a great position at the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology. I’m extremely excited to start teaching! I hope to update you more on Troy in a later post.
