Style Tricks that Will Instantly Elevate Your Outfit
Do you ever get ready for the day and just need something to elevate your outfit? You try layering something extra, wearing a different color combination, or even try mixing patterns? Well, when you’re rushing to get out in the morning, which let’s face it we all are, here are a few tricks to elevate your outfit.
Before I get into the tips, let me tell you a little bit about this outfit because I’m geeking out hardcore. The reason I’m geeking out is because most of this outfit is thrifted. 8 months ago, I thought thrifting was the hardest thing in the world. I would go in there hopelessly and come out with nothing. Now, that is mostly because I didn’t follow my golden rule, which is to literally look everywhere. Now that I follow that rule, I find so many suede skirts, thick sweaters, and amazing jackets. If you’re not following me on Instagram already, make sure you follow me to see my #ThriftedThursday picks. Today I’m showing a pair of wild pants I found last week.
When in Doubt, Grab a Belt
I’m in a serious belt craze right now. Seriously, waist belts are the perfect addition to any outfit with a high waisted skirt. One of my favorite looks this fall is the one I wore to Lark Fest because the belt just sinches everything in. Belts also look fantastic if you’re wearing a pair of skinny jeans and a big top. If that is the case, tuck in the front of the sweater (like I’m doing in these photos) and you’re good to go! This one is from Urban Outfitters.
Tuck in a Layer
Speaking of tucking in sweaters, my favorite styling trick for the colder months is just tucking in the front of a sweater or a long sleeve. For some reason, this instantly makes you look like you tried super hard and thought about your outfit. Plus, it helps you not look frumpy by creating an hourglass look. This trick will definitely help you all fall and winter long!
Stick with Neutrals if You Really Don’t Know What to Wear
If I’m really in a clothing crisis where I don’t know what to wear, I end up with some type of neutral/earth tone outfit. Sometimes its hard to style a bright color, like a hot pink sweater. When in doubt, neutral colors are always a classic look. When I studied abroad in Italy, I was surprised by the color scheme everyone wore: whites, creams, browns, olive greens, and a ton of black clothes. Plus, it really helps that all these colors are extremely easy to pair together. I’m no way a minimalist but I can definitely see the benefit of carrying neutral color pieces.
Mix Textures
One step up from wearing neutrals is switching up the textures in your outfit. Try a fuzzy vest with leather pants, a velvet skirt with a silk top, or a suede jacket with denim. By pairing different textures in a look you’re creating interest to your outfit. For example, the outfit in these pictures has a lot going on. I’m wearing a wool sweater, a suede skirt, and leather accessories. It’s not an overwhelming amount of different textures but it is enough to create interest in these photos. Plus, it totally helps that we have adorable, orange mums behind my giant head!
Are you a big belt fan like me? What is the one accessory you use to elevate your outfit? Have you found any good thrfit finds lately? Let me know in the comments down below.
