Life Update: Pandemic, Job, and More

Like many of you, a lot has changed in our lives over the past few months during the pandemic. I took a long absence from posting simply because I didn’t know what to say. With the world shutting down and protests building up all around me, I was something I’m normally not: speechless. I felt like nothing I could type out on this little screen would matter or be relevant to everyone. So I decided to take a step back and just absorb all of the information around me.

Over the past few months, I’ve been reflecting on so many things. I’ve been feeling an overwhelming amount of emotions from heartbreak to anger to devastation to numbness. I’ve been going through a break up, I switched jobs, I moved back to the city, and like many of you: I’m simply just trying to navigate the new reality of a hug-free world.

Some Not So Fun News

Back in March, I was devastated. I broke up with my boyfriend of six years and then was laid off from my job a week later. Two aspects of my life that I thought I was thriving at came crashing down in a matter of seconds. Instead of wallowing in my sadness, I decided to push through it and put all my efforts into finding a new job. I applied to job after job and interviewed at about 12 different companies. A few weeks later, I ended up finding a new job that perfectly aligned with my career goals. I’m extremely excited and humbled to have found such an incredible opportunity in the midsts of a pandemic. Plus, it definitely helps that I have some incredibly talented coworkers.

Some Better News

As for the pandemic side of things, I’m taking it one step at a time. I’ve been being extremely careful because my brother is getting married in less than 72 hours (can you hear my squeals of excitement through the computer screen). They narrowed down their guest list to 30 people in order to fit state regulations. We are going to make this the most intimate, kick-ass wedding this world has ever seen. But, that definitely means I’m going to try and stay as safe as humanly possible.

We ended up throwing Heather, my brother’s fiancé, an intimate bridal shower filled with balloons, cake, and a quirky game or two. Quarantine has definitely taught us that no matter what the circumstances, what really matters is the people you surround yourself with.

I’ve also been trying to keep sane by filling up my time with unnecessary amounts of baking, knitting, and crafts. More recently, I’ve been trying to get back into “Orangetheroy shape” by doing Tabata, Chloe Ting’s workouts, and practicing to run a 5k (but maybe even further). Now that I’m back in the city, I’ve also been walking around and trying to get some extra steps in after work (even if that means walking to get to-go drinks with my roommates). I’m slowly starting to feel like myself again.

How have you been since the world started crashing down? Are you hanging in there? Have you tried making the best out of it? Let me know in the comments down below.
