The 2019 post trends continue! It’s time to get your listening on in 2019. These podcasts and books are what I’ve been going back to again and again on my long commute to and from work. So buckle up, we’re going down the audiobook lane.

What Everyone Should Listen to

This book makes you feel a million emotions and at the end it makes you want to tackle your life head first. Rachel’s voice makes you feel like you’re sitting next to your best friend. If you’re looking for a book that will make you feel tons of emotions and kickstart your adult life… this is the book for you.

From work, family, and free time she manages to conquer all and become the ultimate #girlboss. Listen to this if you’re trying to make it in the media world and want to know how to balance everything as a businesswoman.

Pop Fashion by Kaarin Vembar and Lisa Rowan: This show and Small Town Murder (scroll all the way to the bottom) are tied for my favorite podcasts. I literally cannot wait until every Thursday so I can get my eats (ha, not hands) on their witty commentary. Each week Kaarin and Lisa make commentary about big fashion news that has happened during the week. They also regularly talk about sustainable/ethical fashion so you can tell I’m one happy camper when I hear that! Listen to this if you want to stay up to date on fashion news and love fashion humor.

Conscious Chatter by Kestrel Jenkins: If you’re reading my blog you’re most likely interested in sustainable fashion. If I’m guessing correctly, Kestrel’s podcast should be top on your list of podcasts to listen to. Each week she talks with a sustainable fashion brand and the issues in fast fashion. Listen if you’re looking for more information about sustainable fashion.

For Inspiration

Fashion is Freedom by Tala Raassi: At age 16 Tala received 40 lashes for wearing a mini skirt to a party in Iran. This horrible punishment is why she set out to design a swimsuit line to embody the idea that fashion is freedom. Her captivating story talks about each failure she had on the way to becoming a fashion designer is incredibly empowering. Listen to this story when you need to remember how fortunate we are for our freedom or when you need a reminder to never give up on your dreams.

Tales from the Back Row by Amy Odell: Amy Odell is a pure genius. She is whimsical, alluring, and I seriously want to be her best friend. She talks about high fashion and the fashion world in such a pure and genuine way. It would be hard not to fall in love with her. Learn about how bloggers that have made it big in the world, how to get seen in fashion week, and all of the struggles associated with the high fashion scene. If you love fashion and one day want to see New York Fashion week in all it’s glory (or chaos) this is definitely an audiobook you should listen to. Listen to this when you need a good laugh or when you need to escape your own world.

Man Repeller by Leandra Medine: Leandra does a wonderful job discussing how each fashion item made her who she is. She talks about uniforms in elementary school, the outfit she first wore on a date, and so much more. Listen if you believe fashion has an impact on your day-to-day life.

For a Good Story

I’ll Eat When I’m Dead by Barbara Bourland: I was consumed by this book from the first chapter all the way until the end. After an employee at Rage magazine, Hillary Whitney, dies in a locked office, the world comes tumbling down. Her death is ruled a side effect of an eating disorder until an anonymous note lands in Detective Mark Hutton’s hands. Mark soon investigates Catherine Ono, a Rage editor. Catherine eventually finds out what really killed Hillary. Listen if you’re interested in mysteries and pop culture events.

Becoming by Michelle Obama: I’m about halfway through this book and I love every second of Michelle’s story. She is such an incredible speaker and I love the way she describes hardships in her life. The book is uplifting and positive. Listen if you’re curious about how Michelle got to be the first lady and what her life was like growing up.

Big Girl: How I Gave Up Dieting and Got a Life by Kelsey Miller: I’m sure every girl can attest to some eating issues she had growing up or even growing into. I mean I still have a mini panic attack every time pizza, chicken wings, or pancakes come into my life. Kelsey does a wonderful job describing her issues with food and how she overcame her fear of food and decided to eat what she wanted to eat. I know, it sounded crazy to me too but it is definitely an interesting read. Listen if you’re open to looking at your food in a different light.

For a Good Laugh

Small Town Murder by James Pietragallo and Jimmy Whisman: When I’m not glued to Pop Fashion, Small Town Murder is my go-to podcast. James and Jimmy discuss bumbling police forces, small town issues, and the murders that happened in them. This is a comedy podcast but they never make fun of the victims or the victim’s families. Listen if you like true crime or need a really good laugh.

#GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso: This book is the reason I am now hooked on audiobooks. I used to think that I couldn’t sit and listen to a whole book, but girl, let me tell you… once you start you cannot stop. Sophia Amoruso tells it how it is and I love her for it. She talks about all the struggles she had starting her business and gives insightful tips on how to become your own girl boss. Her biggest advice that she prefaces in the bigging of her story is: don’t ever grow up, don’t ever be a bore, and don’t let the man get to you. Listen to this book when you’re in need of a little female empowerment and a good laugh.

For Blogging Informaiton

Becoming Fearless by Annie Spano: Each week, Annie brings on speakers that discuss how they got their blogging careers where they are now. These bloggers share the inside tips on how to develop a brand, become confident in your own writing, and so much more. Listen if you want tips on how you can improve your blog.
