Relax Candle From Bath and Body Works: Does It Really Work?

Hello darling! How is your day going? Slightly overwhelming? I’ve have a bunch of essays due next week and just finished up a midterm yesterday. So, you could say I’ve been a little stressed… to say the least. I mean what college senior isn’t stressed about the idea of being released into the real world? If you’re a college senior and you’re not stressed… let me know your secret!

I was introduced to the idea of aromatherapy a couple of years ago and finally decided to actually try it out. Honestly, I first thought it was a load of crap the first time I heard it. I literally thought it was a hippy idea and that there was no way it would work. Three years later, I decided to give it a go.

I received an aromatherapy essential oils kit over Christmas. The kit was by Peabody and Paisley and included three different oils designed to help stress, sleep, and headaches. I have an incredibly difficult time falling asleep sometimes. It definitely has to do with always being on my computer of phone… but I’ll never admit it. I decided to try the oil and I felt like it somewhat worked. I was able to fall asleep much quicker than when I didn’t use it. In all honestly, it could be a placebo effect, but I felt like it really worked.

That is when I decided why not try one of those aromatherapy candles Bath and Body Works always sells. Sure enough, the next time I was in Bath and Body Works they had a crazy Christmas sale that had candles for $10 and then I had a coupon so I actually scored this candle for $7.50. What can I say… this girl can shop. There were two different types of Relax candles. One had a minty smell and the other one was this black chamomile smell. For those who don’t know chamomile is a very old herb that has been used since ancient Rome. It has been known to alleviate cold symptoms, promote relaxation and relieve stress, relieve allergies, aid digestion, and many more.

First thing is first. Candles are relaxing overall. They always make me feel more calm. I don’t know if it is because of the soft flicker of light or if it is just the constant smell that makes me want to sink into my pillow. So, I went into this knowing that I was probably going to be relaxed when I tried this candle. With that said, yes, I think this candle does actually “work magic.” The smell of the candle is this sweet smell that makes you feel like you’re sinking into a beanbag chair. I think there has to be at least some kind of connection with smells and feelings because your nose is so close to your brain… at least that is my thought process!

What is your opinion on aromatherapy? Do you think it is a bunch of garbage or do you think there is a science behind the madness? Let me know in the comments down below!

5 Awesome Stores That Give Back to Others

Hello darling! Christmas time is the perfect time to help others. By shopping at any of these five stores for your gifts you’re not only giving someone you care about an awesome gift but your helping someone else in need. I’ve listed five amazing companies that sell beautiful products while giving back to others. Not only can you find amazing products from their websites, but you can help someone who needs help during this joyful time of year. There is nothing more stylish than giving back.

Tribe Alive

Tribe Alive employs impoverished women and gives them the opportunity to make a sustainable, living income and chance to make their own future. Each product is handcrafted meaning that none of the products are the same. Each product not only changes a life but is also environmentally friendly. Any of their jewelry pieces would be a perfect gift, but I particularly adore the necklace in the third picture.

alive.jpg

Half United

Half United started in 2009 by a brother and a sister. They had little to no money but they knew they wanted to help people in need. They decided to sell graphics and jewelry in order to feed people in need. With each purchase you are helping feed 7 meals for a child in need. They have a wide selection of bullet necklaces because it represents the fight against global hunger. They state that they have taken something that is us usually seen as “a symbol of harm, and turned it into a positive symbol of hope.” If you think gifting jewelry is difficult I would definitely look at their graphics because they’re incredibly witty.

Feed Project

When Lauren Bush Lauren was traveling the world, she noticed all of the impoverished children in many countries. She then created this brand in 2007 in order to feed the children of the world. The Feed Project creates unique pieces that state how many meals the item provides on the bag. For example, the brown cross body has a “75” imprinted on the back of the bag. The 75 represents all of the meals the bag feeds. These products are incredibly elegant and useful. Not only are these products beautiful, but they also help people from countries like Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Kenya, Mexico and Peru to provide sustainable livelihoods for themselves.

Sseko

Sseko hires young women who want to go to college. Every woman who had graduated from Sseko has either graduated from university or is pursuing her college degree. Since most women in impoverished countries lack the necessities to go to college, companies like Sseko can help change their lives for the better. By purchasing these unique gifts you can also help females go to college.

Branded Collective

The Branded Collective employs survivors of human trafficking and helps them spread their story. What some people may not know is that many victims of human trafficking are often branded by the people who capture them. They are often marked forcefully through a branding iron, tattoo, or a knife. Each of the pieces are given a different number meaning that you are branded when you wear the piece. As you wear the piece you are spreading the message that these women are not alone because we stand by them. Branded’s slogan is “Together we wear the story, share the story and change the story.” By informing others about the horrors of human trafficking you can help change the story and hopefully make others aware.

Let me know what you think about these 5 different brands or if you end up purchasing anything in the comments. I definitely see a bangle from Branded and a bullet necklace from Half United in my future…

What Is In My Fall Bag?

Hello darling! You might have seen this bag in my earlier Lark Fest post. I’m in love with this earthy color. I’m so glad I decided to get this rich green instead of the matte black. They also had a white and black combo one. This bag is redicously perfect for fall because of its rich color and dipped texture.

IMG_9381.jpgIMG_9353.jpgIMG_9350.jpgIMG_9351.jpg

I love following the “What’s in my bag” tag on WordPress! Some of the things people lug around is so fascinating to me. I’m just obsessed with finding out what people carry around in their purses… is that weird? The anticipation of finding out if they carry around a knife or a small rodent is thrilling. Okay, sadly I don’t carry around either of those things. I’m actually pretty boring when it comes to what I carry. But I figured I’d give you an update on what I’ve been lugging around because my last “What’s in my bag” was in May of 2015.

IMG_9367.jpg

  • Pen: This pen is embarrassingly from the Saratoga Race Track. I needed to purchase a pen in order to write on one of the race books… this pen cost me $6. I’m not proud of this super expensive purchase, but now I always carry around a pen!
  • Sunglasses: These are from this random shop in New Jersey. I love the cat eye frame on my face. I feel like I’m traveling back in time when i wear them.
  • Hand sanitizer: I always purchase a bunch of these every year from Bath and Body Works. It is something you always should carry around in my opinion. This scent is one of my favorite and is called Apple Wreath.
  • Headphones: I feel like this is always a necessity. I love listening to songza so I have my headphones scattered around like a mad man.
  • Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate sea salt caramel: these are literally my weakness. When I eat this, I get the same feeling I get when I see puppies; this gooey feeling inside my heart.
  • As for these lip stains I love the pigment and this plum color for fall. This particular style of matte lipstick smells like a candy store. It isn’t very matte when you swatch it but it is matte when you apply it to your lips.
  • Nivea is my go to chapstick! I usually go for peppermint chapstick but recently fell in love with this one. I do apply this very often thought the day. I wish it lasted longer on my lips.

IMG_9362.jpgIMG_9368.jpgIMG_9364.jpgIMG_9372.jpg

It wouldn’t be a purse without a few pieces of gum and a wallet! I recently have been trying to ween myself off of chewing gum and replacing them with mints. I still have this case of gum though. After I finish it, I’ll have to get a little can of Altoid mints. As for the wallet, this is from my summer bag but wanted to carry it over.

What do you carry around in your bag? I’d love to find out if you carry around something funky. Link your blog post in the comments or just let me know!

“Red” My Lips

Hello darlings! I recently bought some of these radiant Revlon lip stains. They’re phenomenal because of how long they last and how creamy they feel on your lips.

I admit, I’m typically not a lipstick wearer. My daily make up does not usually include lipstick, but I wanted to branch out of my comfort zone and try something spunky. These lip stains are perfect for someone who is not used to wearing lipstick because you almost feel like they’re not even there. It’s like wearing a lip gloss! Since it’s a stain, you don’t even need to worry about reapplying it every two seconds. I reapplied my lipstick after lunch and it was good for the day. I tried to take if off for my pilates class at 6 and it was still on! So Revlon really means it when they say lip stain!

Colors from left to right.

045 New York Scene has an elegant, rich velvety color that. This stain has a slight plum color mixed with red tones. This particular one is my favorite because of how rich it is. It’s a great stain that stays on for an extended amount of time, which is perfect since it’s a rich color that you’ll want on for a long time.

001 India Intrigue has a slight touch of glitter in this purple/pink color. This color is particularly great for catching city lights or a summer sunset. I would wear this to a going out to a play in the city or even to a friend’s bonfire. The great thing about stains is if you eat a s’more you’ll still have some color on your lips!

015 Barcelona Nights has such a vibrant, pinky color that is sure to add a pop to any outfit. I think it is perfect for a night out with the girls during happy hour. It would be great paired with a crisp, white shirt for a very dramatic entrance.

Have you tried any lip gloss stains? Have you ever tried the Revlon lip stain? Let me know in the comments if you have any stains that you recommend to someone who doesn’t wear lipstick often.

Scrub-a-Dub-Dub

Hello darlings! I’m not going to lie this post was a result of me falling in the skin care section of the grocery store. You can find the darnedest things in the grocery story. I’m glad I got lost though. I’m head over heels for these delicious skin care products.

IMG_8963IMG_8965

It’s almost as if trained professions came together in one room to decide the best smell in the world. The product: Shea Sugar Scrub in Tropical Mango. If this was edible, I would have drove to the store and bought more. I honestly was in a slight dilemma between the Tropical Mango and the Brazilian Nut. I decided to go for the Tropical Mango because it’s more of a summer time smell. The Brazilian Nut smells almost like a rustic, coffee aroma but better than you can even imagine. They have 19 total different scrubs and I might try them all… my aspirations are high, I know.

Anyway, Tree Hut is a certified organic company that sells sunscreen, butters, lotions, soap, wax, and even salt soaks. I’ve been looking on their website for the past hour and there really isn’t a product I don’t want to try. Seriously though, I’m even dying to try the aloe and peppermint soothing foot cream. I think I’m so willing to try all these products because my heart has fallen deeply in love with this delicious sugar scrub. This sugar scrub makes you feel as relaxed as taking a bubble bath but not having to sit for an hour to get that relaxed. It’s a good 5 minute scrub and you feel totally relaxed afterwords. You also get to smell like trained professionals altered your DNA to smell like you used to live in heaven. So if that isn’t the raddest of rad things i don’t know what is. Also, your skin is as if you were sitting in a tub of lotion for an hour. I don’t think my skin has even been softer.

I would really recommend looking at this page that describes the benefits of all of the different fragrances. For the tropical mango they state that the fragrance “Mango Puree is packed with vitamins and minerals to renew dull skin and reveal a natural glow. Safflower Seed Oil’s natural linoleic acid contains anti-inflammatory properties which help to fight skin conditions. It also prevents dryness and hydrates to provide healthy glow, while promoting elasticity.” I also have safflower seed oil in my next product…

IMG_8966

If you haven’t tried at least one of St. Ives products you’re definitely missing out. After falling in love with their facial scrubs a few years ago, I decided to look into their company policies. St. Ives does not use parabens but instead use natural exfoliants, extracts, moisturizers and vitamins. Another great aspect of their company is that they make an effort to use as many renewable and recycled materials as possible. But my personal favorite about St. Ives is that they don’t test on animals. St. Ives clearly knows how to win my heart and keep the world clean while doing so.

So I decided to try their Timeless Skin: Collagen Elastin Moisturizer. It is made with natural safflower seed oil. According to Organic Facts, safflower seed oil “stimulates the regeneration of new skin cells meaning that it helps to clear up scars and other blemishes from the surface of the skin.” This is why it makes sense to put in safflower seed oil in a “timeless skin” cream. The cream is very light weight which is nice because I can put it on before I put my make up on in the morning. I also love the clean, lotion smell it radiates.

IMG_8969

I’ve tried some of the Freeman masks  (Avocado & Oatmeal Clay mask and the Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask) before but have never tired the Dead Sea minerals Anti-Stress Mask. I honestly thought there were only three different types of masks because CVS only seems to carry those three. However, after going to their website I was overwhelmed with the 23 different kinds of masks. I clearly need to open my horizon. If I was in charge of their marketing I would change the name of this particular mask to “Want To Look Like a Million Bucks?” I’m almost mad at myself for taking this long to try this wonderful product. It rejuvenates your skin in minutes. Plus, the beautiful blue color gave me a perfect reason to snapchat me singing “I’m Blue” by Eiffel 65.

I really hope this post has given you some inspiration to try one of these fantastic products. I’m also apologizing ahead of time for the deep love you will feel for each product. Also, your skin will thank you.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried any of these, want to try one of these, or have any skin care recommendations for me! I love hearing your thoughts and opinions!

Treat Yo Self- Haul June 2016

Hello darlings! Before you read any further, I just want to point out that these purchases have been over a month and have just started piling up. I figured I would share some of my lovely purchases with you guys because they make me warm and fuzzy inside. Plus, I love reading all your hauls so maybe someone gets that oogy-gooey feeling like I do.

It seems like this time last year I blogged about Bath and Body Works. It might just be that they always have a fantastic sale going on around this time. No worries I have some new goodies to show. Oddly enough, that post gets revisited time after time. Someone must just love looking at their colorful products… I know I do! I feel like every time I go into Bath and Body Works I get sucked into this other world. Luckily enough, there is a sale going on this week. If you haven’t checked it out already… go, go, go! Right now the original $22 candles are half off. You guys know my obsession with candles (my roommate, Courtney, admits that she is ready for all of the scented candles next year). I ended up purchasing 3.

IMG_8873.jpg

The Autumn Mums smells like florals with a hint of the generic Flesh Linen candle. The underneath of the candle says that the candle smells like “a floral blend of soft mum petals, amber and a hint of sandalwood.” I think that nailed it.

The next candle is the Baja Cactus Blossom.  This one really caught my eye because I didn’t really know that cacti had a scent. I really wish this candle had a lotion because it has the softest note of coconut that makes the candle so alluring. The back of the candle says that the scent is from the “alluring beauty of a cactus flower captured in a blend of fresh white flowers, green cactus stems and sun kissed coconut.” Not captured in my photos, the lid of this particular candle has palm leaves which makes a great addition to my candle collection.

The last candle is the sweet Paris Lavender Macaron. This candle says that it smells like “lavender blossoms with a delicate patisserie cookie,” but I smell something completely different. When I smell this candle, I smell a sweet vanilla, cinnamon, and cream cheese frosting. This particular candle I think should be burned for a little because it is stronger than the others.

.
I also ended up getting something that I’ve never purchased before. I ended up getting this adorable car freshener and 4 different scents. I admit, it took me a little while to actually figure out how to insert the scent. Once I figured it out the first time, it’s easy to change. I have a soft spot for candles and cacti so I guess Bath and Body Works knows the way to my heart. The scents right now are 4 for $10. Which isn’t too bad considering they’re normally $3.50. They also have more adorable holders than this cactus. For example, they have a margarita glass, anchors, turtles, and flowers.

IMG_8933.jpg

Going along with the car theme, I’ve been looking for a keychain for my car keys. It’s just been a little hard finding them in my purse so I just wanted a little tassel. I found this one at DSW and thought it was adorable.

IMG_8888.jpg

When it comes to shoes, I have trust problems. It’s very, very rare that I will fall in love with any shoes that aren’t Steve Madden. My boots are always Steve Madden. I don’t know what it is but he just seems to know what I like. So, naturally, going into DSW my eyes somehow always dart towards Steve Madden shoes. It’s almost pathetic. I was wandering the store looking for shoes for an upcoming wedding, and I had three different boxes… All Steve Madden. I ended up getting two lace up pairs of Steve Madden. Do any of you have a brand of shoes that you just can’t seem to escape?

The pair on the left is actually a little bit of a darker brown than the pair on the left but the picture disordered it a little. With that in mind I really like both of these shoes because they make your legs look longer. When you have shoes that are a similar tone as your skin, it plays a trick on the eyes by making your legs look longer. These sandals are incredibly comfy because they don’t have that thong in-between the big toe and other toes. I also love the lace up aspect of them. It’s a unique flare.

The pair on the right is such a show stopper. I’ve fallen in love with the lace up shoes ever since I bought my first pair in Ireland. You can see them here. Plot twist: they’re from Top Shop. The heel on these shoes are about 2 1/3 to 3 inches. I love that you can tie a bow either in front or back of your leg. Okay, that may seem really minor but it really makes a difference depending on what you’re wearing. For example, the dress I’m wearing to an upcoming wedding is very elegant and says enough without needing shoes to say more. Therefore, by putting the bow in the back of the leg plays down the shoe. If I was wearing a simple dress I would want the bow in the front. Regardless these shoes are a great addition to my shoe collection. P.S. the red on the shoes is from a clearance sticker… It is NOT blood! I don’t want anyone to be worried/alarmed!

I ended up going into Madewell. Madewell is actually a really new store to me. They are  partnered up with the lovely J.Crew but have a more youthful vibe. Many of their items are very clean cut and simple but have a little bit of a unique cut or style to them. For example, their plain shirts might drape a certain way. All of their jewelry is this funky gold color. I have a hard time describing it so if any of you know the proper term let me know in the comments. It’s a really unique quality their jewelry possesses. I ended up spending a lot of time looking at their jewelry and ended up with this ring that looks between a sun and a bullet wound (might look like a bullet wound to me because I’ve been spending a lot of time watching Lost). If you’ve never been to a Madewell shop it’s definitely a place you should check out. I forgot to mention, their bags are phenomenal as well. They have leather bags that you can initial or make them say whatever you want. I’m thinking about purchasing a simple leather bag for all my papers in the future.

Earlier this summer, I went to Maryland with my boyfriend’s family and met more of his family. I ended up purchasing this 100% vegan, cruelty-free roll on perfume. I love roll on perfumes because they’re so easy to throw in your bag and apply them on the go. They make a few different smells. If I see this brand again I think I’m going to purchase the grapefruit one next!

IMG_8860

Whenever you go into a place like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Nordstrom Rack you never really know what you’re going to come out with. Recently, I wandered around Normstrom Rack with my mom desperately looking for a dress for a wedding (I founded it but that is for another post… The anticipation I know)! I didn’t know where to begin looking for just normal shirts. I just looked at random racks here and there. I still don’t think I looked at everything. I ended up falling for this beautiful blue top. The way the top sits on your shoulders is incredibly flattering. I can’t wait to show you guys how I pattern this top a few different ways.

There are three dresses you will ended up seeing in future posts. I’m incredibly excited to show you the dresses and the experiences associated with them.

Like the Nordstrom Rack… Marshalls is just as good. I found these spring pattern shorts on one of the racks. I love this deep, rich green color and the funky blue pattern.

IMG_8877

Along with the shorts this breezy top was hiding in one of the racks. It has cutouts on the shoulders and flows everywhere else. This is a perfect shirt for a colder day because it would look phenomenal with white skinny jeans.

It is so hard going into American Eagle and not buying something. I plan on showing these three items in an outfit post so I had to just show them in a little sneak peak…

I love Francesca’s… what is not to love about their delicate jewelry pieces and feminine clothing. Also, they have the best accessory section compared to Urban Outfitters. I ended up getting this adorable flower case and matching mug. I’ve been looking at this mug since the winter and have finally shelled out the money to purchase it. I’m really indecisive if I should keep it as a mug or if I should transform it into a succulent platter. If you have any opinions let me know in the comments!

I love these sparkly earrings I picked up as well. I’ve gotten so many compliments on them  that I knew I had to blog about them. The outside rim is a faux looking wooden branch and the inside are filled with different sized gems. What isn’t to love?

IMG_8854

Obviously I needed help talking pictures so Butch graciously volunteered. He helped me pick out which item to photograph until he got distracted by this enormous frog that lives in our little coy pond.

As you read this post, I am moving to Troy. I’ve been offered a great position at the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology. I’m extremely excited to start teaching! I hope to update you more on Troy in a later post.

Mascara Review: Rimmel London, Maybeline, and Covergirl

Hello darlings! I’ve been on the lookout for a good mascara for quite some time. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I went to my local CVS and picked up some mascaras that I thought would do the trick.

Before I explain each product, I want to explain what I like about mascaras. I have little eyes and short eyelashes so I like a smaller brush that can reach each of my eyelashes. I also only buy waterproof mascara because I feel like it doesn’t smudge as much as non-waterproof mascaras.

Rimmel London Wonder’lash mascara ($7.99)

I love the package of this mascara it is such a pretty blue. Unfortionally, that is the only thing I like about this mascara. The wand is really big in person and barely any of the mascara sticks to the brush. When the formula is on the brush, doesn’t really have an impact. My eyelashes turn into little straws sticking out straight. On a scale 1-10 (10 being the highest), it would get a 7 because it isn’t the worst mascara I’ve ever tried. It’s just an average mascara.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara ($5.99)

Despite the fun watermelon colored packaging, this is the worst mascara I’ve ever tried. The application is great and it applies really well. However, after wearing it for about an hour it smudges everywhere. I threw on this mascara before running to the store and by the time I came home I looked like I had been rubbing my eyes and possibly crying… even though I wasn’t. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest), I rate this mascara a 4. The only reason it isn’t getting a lower score is because I like the packaging and the size of the brush. They really just need to work on the formula. Keep in mind how cheap this mascara was. That might have some significance to why this product was so poorly made.

Covergirl Bombshell Curvaceous ($11.99)

Finally, a mascara I’ve fallen in love with! This mascara gives you major volume and definition. It does not smudge after a long day and it is easy to take off at the end of the day. I really like how there are two different steps. I admit, I was pretty reluctant at first because I thought it was going to take so much longer to apply. In reality, it’s just like putting two coats of normal mascara on. The first one you apply has thinner bristles so that it will get every lash. The first brush is also slightly curved so it bends your lashes slightly. The first one is designed so it makes your lashes look longer. The second one is is to intensify your lashes. It makes your lashes appear thicker and full. If you think it is too dramatic to add both for every day you can only use one of the sides. Personally, I use both sides every day because who doesn’t want to look like a bombshell every day? If I were to rate this one it would get a solid 10.

What is your favorite drugstore mascara? I’m always on the lookout for new mascara to add to my collection. It’s one of those makeup necessities. The only “expensive” mascara I’ve ever purchased was Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Lengthening & Volumizing Mascara. I have to say I like my CoverGirl mascara a lot more than Benefit’s mascara. If you have any mascaras in mind let me know!
